After getting his tongue over the bit last start and pulling up with a poor post race recovery, Va Va Veni headed to the midweek meeting at Ipswich yesterday.

Va Va Veni was crunched in the betting from $2.80 into a $1.90 and had to overcome a wide gate and top weight. He jumped well and was steered into a position just behind the leaders in running. Jockey Dan Griffin angled three wide around the turn and kicked clear into the straight to win comfortably.

Michael’s Comments: “What a tough little horse. He has continued to thrive since arriving at the Gold Coast stable. Full credit goes to my team at the Gold Coast for turning him out in fine order yet again. It was also a superb ride by Dan Griffin who in my opinion is the most underrated jockey in the country.”
